Aesir are one of the two different classes of gods. The Aesir are the Gods and Goddesses of war. Keep reading to learn about 10 of the Aesir Gods.

Odin- King of the Aesir Gods, ruler of Asgard. Husband of Frigg, father of many godly children. God of wisdom, healing and sorcery. Sacrificed an eye to Mimir in his quest for knowledge. Destined to be killed by the Fenris Wolf at Ragnarok. 

 

Frigg- Queen of the Aesir Gods, wife of Odin. Goddess of the sky, also associated with motherhood and household. Indirectly responsible for her son Balders death. 

 

Thor- Son of Odin, God of thunder and agriculture. Husband of Sif. Defender of the Aesir's stronghold in Asgard. Famous weapon, Mjollnir, a hammer made by dwarfs. Thursday comes from the word norse people called it, Thors Day. 

 

Balder- Friggs son. God of light and purity. Frigg loved him so much that she made everything on Earth promise that it couldn’t kill him. Gods threw things at him, nothing hurt him. Loki then tricked his blind brother into throwing a mistletow dart (the one thing Frigg forgot), which killed him. 

 

Tyr- God of war and heroic glory. Had his hand bitten off when the gods captured the Fenris wolf. Destined to be killed by Garm, the guard dog of Hel at Ragnarok. 

 

Bragi-God of poetry. Bard of Valhalla, entertained the Einherjar (Odin's army of the dead -Norse people who died in combat) 

 

Loki- God of chaos and mischief. Children include Hel, the Fenris Wolf and Jörmungandr, the world serpent. The Fenris wolf and the world serpent are destined to kill Odin and Thor on Ragnarok. Tricked Balders brother into killing him. Able to shapeshift. 

 

Hel- Daughter of Loki, ruler of Helheim (anyone who died of sickness or old age ended up in Helheim) Has the face and body of a living woman, lower body of a corpse.  

 

Heimdall-guarder of Asgard. Has super good sight and hearing. His horn, Gjallarhorn, signals attacks on the Gods and is said to signal the start of Ragnarok, in which him and Loki are destined to slay each other.
